Salve María

María, a promising young writer and new mother, stumbles upon a chilling headline: a French woman has drowned her 10-month-old twins in the bathtub. The gruesome act seizes Maria’s imagination, becoming an obsession. Why did she do it? From that moment onwards, the specter of infanticide looms over Maria’s life as a haunting possibility.

Salve María explores the intimate struggle of María, a young author navigating the overwhelming demands of new motherhood while seeking to reclaim her artistic identity. In a world that imposes rigid roles on women, her journey symbolizes the broader fight for self-determination and freedom from societal pressures. As she grapples with the exhausting reality of motherhood, where emotions and creativity are entangled, María’s story reflects a universal conflict many women face: balancing familial responsibilities with personal autonomy. The film directly addresses contemporary challenges surrounding gender equality, consent, and social justice, portraying María’s internal battle between nurturing her child and pursuing her creative passions. In doing so, Salve María presents a woman breaking free from both external constraints and internalized pressures, inviting the audience to reflect on evolving roles of women in society and reconsider how we define freedom, consent, and empowerment in the face of complex societal expectations.
