Alberto San Juan

In 1996, he co-founded the theater company Ración de Oreja with other actors such as Guillermo Toledo, Nathalie Poza, and Ernesto Alterio. His first play as a playwright was *Animalario* (Beautiful Entertainment Stories About the Daily Humiliation of Existence). During the run of that first production, he met Andrés Lima, then a member of the Riesgo theater company. The connection between the two and their shared understanding of theater led, a year later, to the merger of both companies under the name Animalario, a company recognized with awards such as the Max Awards and whose notable works include Marat Sade, Hamelin, Alejandro y Ana, What Do You Care If I Love You (with Juan Cavestany and Andrés Lima), 1997, Freight Train Fleeing to the Northwest (with Juan Cavestany and Juan Mayorga), 1998. As for his awards, his work has earned him the Goya Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for *Bajo las estrellas* (2007); the Silver Biznaga for Best Actor for *Bajo las estrellas* at the Málaga Film Festival (2007); the Golden Espiga for Best Actor for *La isla interior* at the Valladolid Film Festival (2009); the Goya Award for Best Supporting Actor for *Sentimental* (2021); a Max Award for Best Breakthrough Show for El fin de los sueños, 2000; and a Max Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Argelino, 2008.
