C Tangana

C Tangana will be at the ASFF 2024 Closing Night on Sunday April 21 at Pathé Tuschinski, presenting his documentary film ESTA AMBICION DESMEDIDA. He will be accompanied by the directors of the film, Santos Bacana, Rogelio González, and Cris Trenas.

Tangana is a non-conformist artist, composer and producer, as well as businessman, whose third album “El Madrileño” (SONY, February 2021) confirms him as one of the most innovative and inventive musicians on the current music scene. Since the release of this album, also known as El Madrileño (the name of his LP), he has received widespread praise from the industry: it was nominated for a Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album and winner of 3 Latin Grammys in the categories of Best Engineered Album, Best Alternative Song for “Nominao” and Best Pop/Rock Song for “Hong Kong”. In addition, it has been featured in influential media such as Billboard, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone, appearing on their covers and annual rankings.

Since the debut of El Madrileño, with a one-year anniversary reissue titled “El Madrileño (La Sobremesa)” (SONY, February 2022), this triple-platinum masterpiece has amassed over 2 billion streams worldwide, topping the charts and reaching #1 on Spotify’s Global Albums Debut chart. Additionally, the successful album accumulated more than 5 million streams on Spotify Spain during the first 24 hours, becoming the best debut for a Spanish artist and making history on the platform. It also debuted at #8 on the Latin Pop Albums chart, marking an unprecedented entry on any Billboard album chart, making C. Tangana the first Spanish artist born in Spain to appear in the Top 10 of the list.

The release of singles like “Un Veneno” and “Para Repartir” in 2019 marked the beginning of an aesthetic transformation that would define this new stage, exploring the influence of Latin musical tradition and paving the way for a 2020 where, once again, Far from following the usual coordinates of the industry and fleeing from predictability, he surprised his audience with “I’m Never”, a kind of low-resolution ballad that propelled this innovative musical to the top of all digital music platforms for three consecutive weeks, becoming the first track from Spain to reach the top of streaming platforms in 2020.

These first steps set the stage for “El Madrileño”, where backed by legends such as Gipsy Kings, José Feliciano, Toquinho or Eliades Ochoa, as well as contemporary artists such as Omar Apollo, Ed Maverick or Adriel Favela, he explored styles such as rumba, bossa nova, corrido, they are Cuban or bachata, achieving hits such as “Tú Me Dejaste de Querer”, “Demasiadas Mujeres” or later “Ateo” with Nathy Peluso.

Tangana is, therefore, one of the most renowned artists worldwide, constantly creating unique and avant-garde projects both musically and aesthetically, since “Ídolo” (SONY, 2017), an album that opened new doors for him on the radio in Spain, to the mixtape “Ávida Dollars” (SONY, 2018), which showed the authentic essence of rap in its music, to conquering the Latin American public with multiplatinum global hits such as “Mala Mujer”, “Bien Duro” or “Booty” with Becky G, as well as co-author of “Malamente”, which earned him two Latin GRAMMYs® in 2018 and another two in 2019, including Album of the Year as co-writer of “El Mal Querer.”
